Masterson Method Integrated Equine Bodywork®
What is so special about the Masterson Method?
Masterson Integrated Equine Bodywork was developed by Jim Masterson, equine massage therapist for the US Equestrian Team 2006–2010. It is unique in that we draw from multiple modalities according to what the horse presents to us that we can feel and influence. This method is aligned with the principles of osteopathy, myofacial and craniosacral releases, acupressure, and non-impact musculoskeletal manipulations. This is an interactive process where the practitioner, with the horse in a relaxed state, is able to soften connective tissue, stimulate releases in deep-seated, constricted or contracted muscles, and work toward restoring a natural straightness, balance, and range of motion.
The end goal is that the horse is in a relaxed state through the process, not bracing or resisting. We bring his awareness to an area where there is tension or stress that he can then sense and release. Through touch, response, and listening to the feedback of the horse, we stay below the horse's fight-flight-freeze instinct. Often in just one session there are measurable results in performance and biomechanics, and a level of relaxation and trust can be reflected in the horse’s overall well-being and attitude.
